A year with the sheep 2025
Come walk in the footsteps of a shepherd with this year long opportunity to get to know the sheep and have a closer connection to the cycle of shepherding. We start each cohort in the spring when the lambs arrive, and end the following year at the same time. Over the course of the year you will come to the farm on 6 different occasions which include: lambing season, early spring pasture walks and identification of plants, midsummer celebration, late summer lamb inspection, shearing day!!!, and ending with the following year lambing season.
Each shepherd in training will have the opportunity to get to know the lambs and pick out a fleece for their project during shearing. You’ll learn how to skirt wool, wash wool, and process by hand using tools you can borrow. I can also process the wool into roving if requested. As a shepherd in training you have the opportunity to become as involved in our lifestyle as you want, we will offer additional opportunities to get involved throughout the year.
The goal of this adventure is to have a deeper experience into the process of a garment from the beginning (birth of a new lamb) to the harvest of the fiber (shear day) to the processing and celebration the following year (lambing season). What you experience and create will last a lifetime. So grab your farm clothes and come along with us as we spend a year with the sheep!!!
